Bye Bye CPAP

Bye Bye CPAP

It finally happened!  No more packing and unpacking my CPAP machine when I travel.  Going through the airport was a real drag, unpacking my machine and then repacking just to get through the line.  Listening to people shuffle their feet and make noises because I was taking so long. Well, bye bye CPAP!

Bye Bye CPAP Discovery

Lenora, a friend of my sister’s, is the one who first told me about these oral devices.  I had traveled to Utah to visit my family. I left in such a hurry and did not realize I left my machine by the front door until I arrived at the airport.  After waking up several days in a row with a nagging headache from lack of oxygen, my sister went into sister-mode!  She telephoned her friend, Lenora, to borrow her old machine.  Upon arrival with the machine, Lenora explained to me exactly how she stopped using it.  Lenora said she loved the new device and that I should definitely check into getting one for myself.

Bye Bye CPAP Benefits

  1. You can insert the oral device before going to bed.
  2. No more tubes and cords to become wrapped around you while you are sleeping.
  3. Without the machine, you will not be disturbed by the noise.
  4. You can even open your mouth, talk and drink with the device inserted with no problem.
  5. Cleaning is extremely fast and easy.
  6. You do not have to lug it through security at the airport.
  7. It is small enough to carry in your purse or man bag.
  8. No electricity is required.
  9. Go camping!  Or just sleep under the stars.
  10. Comfort is the major factor. If you are not using your CPAP, then you may develop serious problems.  Nightly compliance with CPAP users is approximately 50%.

The Bottom Line

Oral devices (or oral appliances) are used in the treatment of mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea.  These devices have been recommended by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.  If a patient is currently using a CPAP successfully, then there may be no need to search for an alternative.  Unless, of course, you want something much easier to handle.
